Recently visiting his home town of Marshall,Texas, he spent time with his father before fight #8.
Locals welcomed former heavyweight boxing champion and Marshall’s own George Foreman home Monday with warm hugs and a hearty applause as he accompanied his son, George “Monk” Foreman III, to announce his boxing match.
According to George “Monk” Foreman III, he is back in the ring and training for fight #9. Although no official date has been released, he will be training hard and staying focused until then.

“How’s everybody,” Foreman, said greeting the crowd as he walked up the steps of Greater Marshall Chamber of Commerce Monday to announce what will be his son’s first fight in Texas.
“We’ve gone all around the states,” Foreman said. “So, I decided, ‘Look, he’s done a nice job.’ I said, ‘I’ll bring you back home.’”
Joe Dumas, Foreman’s nephew and producer of tonight’s event, said “I brought Mr. Foreman here because we got together and said, ‘Hey, Let’s start our first show in Marshall,” said Dumas, who spent his summers here at the Foreman home. “We go around Texas or Louisiana and try to give every boxer a chance that may not have ever had a chance.
“We take them in all size, all colors — all kinds of records … because a lot of times when guys start boxing, they have to go so far away to even fight, so we said let’s do something for the local guys here,” he said. “There are guys from Shreveport, Texarkana, Dallas — even some from Marshall.”
The tournament series, back in July featured six boxers including Scottie Rossum of Arkansas, Blake Franklin of Louisiana and Foreman’s son, Monk, representing Texas. This will be his eighth fight.
The producer said he was happy to bring the series here and so was Foreman. The boxing champion expressed his joy about being back in the area and in the same building where he announced his fight with Joe Smith Frazier in 1976.
“It was right here,” said Foreman. “It was strange walking up the steps here, having that same feeling again for my son. I think it’s wonderful.”
“It’s very exciting,” he said of the fight. “The locals will get a chance to see how (he’s) developed. It’ll happen right here in the Marshall area.”
Foreman said he was initially shocked his son, a 2006 Rice University graduate, decided to box.
“I thought he was crazy,” said Foreman, flashing his contagious smile. “You would think the luxury of getting a good college education that you’re too smart for that. But, I like the idea because he did it by way of choice. Most of us have to do it because we’re so underprivileged and all of that. I was shocked.”
Monk said he saw how much his father loved the sport. He, too, fell in love with it once he was got a taste of it.
“I got in the ring in the gym and just found out I loved it,” said Monk. “I just wanted to be an amateur and see what it was like, but fell in love with it. I’ve made money doing a lot of things, but never something that I love and that’s what boxing became to me. So, I’m just glad that I have a father to help me with it.”
Monk, who weighs about 240 pounds and is more than an 6-foot, 3-inches, started his professional boxing career about a year ago. His father has been by his side since, often watching him box at ring side.
“That makes me more nervous than anything, more nervous than the guy I’m in the ring with,” Monk said of having his father at his matches. “But this is the type of sport you have to perform under pressure, so as much pressure as I can put on myself in the earlier stages, I think it can help me in the later stages.”
Monk said he couldn’t ask for a better trainer than his father.
“He knows exactly what he’s talking about, but boy is he hard,” said Monk. “He doesn’t let me (slack). But, whenever I do my hard training, the dirty stuff, the hard work, I always come down to Marshall, Texas. This is where I get it done. This is where I’ve been working on my career.”
He said he looks forward to tonight’s fight and hopes to win.
“This is really like my hometown. For as long as I remember, we’ve always had a home here. So I’m really anxious, but I just want to get out there and win, number one. But number two, make sure that people enjoy coming out to see fights,” he said.
THE BIG DEAL
Texans star reciever Andre Johnson singed a new multi-million dollar deal making him the highest paid reciever in the NFL and Texan history. The Texans made a few more key deals that should really seal the deal when it comes to playoff hopes this season. Never the less the Andre Johnson deal is one of the most lucritive across the league, talk about pressure building in a pipe, the pipe this year belong to Andre Johnson and the entire Texan franchise according to most fans.
VINCE YOUNG SAUSAGES
Vince Young have had his share of ups and down, wins and losses, but sausages? Perfect, beating the hell out of a club promoter, dumb, but selling sausages out of local grocery markets such as Foodtown guiness. I purchased a pack, just to actually taste them, and I got to admit like his predicessor Earl Cambell life after the bright lights look just that bright!!!

LAKERS vs. HEAT ???????
Derek Fisher starting L.A. Laker point gaurd flew to Miami to meet with the Miami Heat who has reportedly shown intrest in signing Fisher for the upcoming season. The L.A. Lakers chose not to offer Fisher a salary increase after winning the championship, instead they offered him the same deal that he agreed to during this past season. Miami Heat is pulling out all of its fire power to make this sweet addition to what already seem to be money in the bag when Lebron James was said to have met Fisher at the airport when he arrived in Miami. This makes me wonder what the conversation between Koby and D. Fisher is like if their is even one at this point neverless B-Ball fans will be wowwed in the next few days for the Lebron James signing domino effect has began.
